Uganda and Aids

Currently, a little under 1.6 Million Ugandans have HIV infection, acquired mainly via heterosexual transmission; about 10% acquired HIV infection via the mother-child transmission route. In two studies, the mother-child HIV transmission rate reached 26%. 400,000-450,000 Ugandans have died from HIV/AIDS.

3.5 million Ugandan orphans — 1.2 Million, from AIDS. How did this happen & what can be done? One out of every seven children in Uganda is an orphan, with many subsisting in usually-wretched 600+ orphanages, where abuse and neglect is common.

Although Uganda has experienced a decrease in AIDS/HIV, in recent years, 54000 people were infected in 2022
